A Stanford University Psychologist addresses the Harvard University Law School where she describes several experiments that suggest White males & police officers subconsciously perceive Black Males as criminal and less than human. The results provide evidence of a strong automatic bidirectional association between Blacks & Crime. The image of a Black male can trigger unconscious thoughts of crime and thinking of crime can trigger unconscious thoughts of Black people. The simple presence of a Black Male may unknowingly cause thoughts of crime and violence attributed to that person. Modeled along the same lines as the original Crime Stoppers Program is the Crime Stoppers Program for this provinces high schools. Research has shown us that high school is much the same as any other community in the province. School administration and students face many similar issues that are crime related. Minor thefts, vandalism, mischief, such as bomb-scares and setting off fire alarms, drug dealing, liquor offences and bullying. Some schools are so large that they even have their own dedicated police officer at the school for immediate response or assistance. So where does Crime Stoppers fit with school crime? The answer is simple. We offer the same guarantees as our regular program, in that all callers are offered complete anonymity and cash awards. We do not tape or trace calls. We do not subscribe to any form of call identification. The only difference is that our award schedule for high school crime is from .00 – 0.00 and quite often the school administration will deal with some of these matters internally through suspension, detention or compensation for damages. Crime Stoppers still consider these as solved crimes and the caller will qualify for the cash awards. Weve been doing high school presentations since 1993, and have seen many successes with this unique approach to solving crime. Dinesh was murdered September 11, 2007 in Toronto, ON Canada. Toronto Police Service Homicide Squad investigators have received a lot of cooperation from the public on this case, but need more information to solve the case and give the victim’s family closure. On September 19, 2007 the lead investigators in the case led by Detective Sergeant Gary Grinton addressed an assembly of 300 students at Dinesh’s school – Winston Churchill Collegiate – to make a plea for further information. This video features the Toronto Crime Stoppers school police officer Constable Scott Mills filmed outside of the school just before the assembly. A plea is made for more information to be called into detectives at 416-808-7400 directly, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
